How I came to write Pim
People often ask how I came to write Pim. It seems like a thousand years since I discovered Pim, or that Pim
discovered me. Thankfully I kept detailed notes and saved photos from that time. While I can’t swear to the
absolute accuracy of what you are about to read, I have done my best to capture the essence of how Pim entered my life.

Having wandered distractedly all night the Well-Dressed Albatross breakfasted at an outdoor restaurant, in Chapultepec Park, by the lake. Somewhat relaxed, he failed to notice the slender tail insinuating itself into his jacket pocket containing the 1,000,000 pesos.

Walking swiftly to a better part of Mexico City wasn’t a comfort the Well-Dressed Albatross. Nor should it have been.

Ejecting themselves from their jars, the siblings were sibilants made visible under a desert sunset.

Uncle Thanatos had no beak, it having been rudely severed in his youth as an warning to all who would dare miss a payment. A vain man, he never allowed his disfigurement to be seen. The WDA remained without, addressing Thanatos through a narrow opening.

The Well-Dressed Albatross didn’t much care for Tepito. On climbing the stairs to his uncle’s apartment he stood there for some moments composing himself before he knocked.

Uncle Thanatos lived in Tepito and made his living by offering loans at high interest rates and with extreme penalties for those who fell behind in their payments.

The Well-Dressed Albatross and Clive decided to raise the stakes by making it a money game. They played until dawn, at which time the WDA owed Clive 1,000,000 pesos.

In another part of the Diner the Well-Dressed Albatross and Clive had commenced a game of Three-Cushion Billiards.

Ukifune discovered Ifny, who had gone into a corner to be alone.
