How I came to write Pim
People often ask how I came to write Pim. It seems like a thousand years since I discovered Pim, or that Pim discovered me. Thankfully I kept detailed notes and saved photos from that time. While I can’t swear to the absolute accuracy of what you are about to read, I have done my best to capture the essence of how Pim entered my life.

“Condemned like Socrates by envious weasels” as Clive had expostulated in response to his dismissal from the faculty, he wandered the desert in exile and pondered a radical vocational adjustment.

For abuse of power unbefitting so hallowed a position, Clive was dismissed and made persona non grata by the University administration. (He’d have been jailed had there still been a jail.) The next day Ukifune’s math class had a new instructor.

Some hours later the Well-Dressed Albatross realized that Ukifune was no longer with him and had likely missed the better part of his reminiscences about Uncle Theosophus.

Ukifune treated Brad as best she could and then returned with him to the residence. She warned of possible brain damage and Brad asked her how the brain damage would affect him.

Heading to their first tango class—they’d purchased the recommended footwear earlier that day—Pim and Bim came upon Brad, unconscious under desert stars. Concussed from the explosion that freed him from jail Brad had lost his way back to residence and collapsed far from help.

Mr. Love had no trouble decoding Ukifune’s instructions and promptly applied her method (albeit with less finesse than Ukifune had demonstrated). Leaving the jail in ruins he sought vengeance on Clive, and sought Ukifune with a vengeance.

Mr. Love was not happy to find Ukifune absent from the cell that was supposed to contain her. He was not happy at all.

The Well-Dressed Albatross was the Diner’s sole customer when Ukifune walked in. This was fortuitous for a post-op inspection of his new prosthetic leg.

To avoid recapture after her escape, Ukifune wisely took a circuitous path back to the residence.
