How I came to write Pim
People often ask how I came to write Pim. It seems like a thousand years since I discovered Pim, or that Pim discovered me. Thankfully I kept detailed notes and saved photos from that time. While I can’t swear to the absolute accuracy of what you are about to read, I have done my best to capture the essence of how Pim entered my life.

As he was surrendering to the twilight of anaesthesia Mr. Love suddenly remembered an important detail of the procedure, and struggled in vain to impart it to Ukifune and Brad.

Under the threat of deploying a firearm he didn’t have (to say nothing of the arms he lacked for its deployment) Mr. Love ushered Brad and Ukifune back to Lansing.

Mr. Love was thrilled to find the two ‘surgeons’ responsible for his heinous appendage transplant residing in the same place.

Ukifune and Brad wandered independently to the unoccupied house of Pim and Bim (Pim and Bim being at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, perfecting the kind of lean, evocative short stories that favour showing over telling.)

As one might have known, Mr. Love had ulterior motives. By powers I don’t even want to contemplate, he embedded the Well-Dressed Albatross in the Balthus.

Mr. Love inclined the Well-Dressed Albatross towards a drawing to which the Well-Dressed Albatross had a strong aversion.

As the Well-Dressed Albatross made his way through the gallery, Mr. Love hovered (literally) over his shoulder.

Ukifune had left her stool to sell cookies to a couple from Varanasi, in Lansing for their honeymoon. Left alone with her computer the Well-Dressed Albatross came upon an intriguing website.

The Well-Dressed Albatross arrived in Lansing by mistake, having confused the departure gate with a Strasbourg flight to visit his Uncle Thrale. He was delighted to run into Ukifune who introduced him to the world of digital interaction.
