How I came to write Pim
People often ask how I came to write Pim. It seems like a thousand years since I discovered Pim, or that Pim discovered me. Thankfully I kept detailed notes and saved photos from that time. While I can’t swear to the absolute accuracy of what you are about to read, I have done my best to capture the essence of how Pim entered my life.

Once inside it became clear that Mrs. Love’s new home wasn’t as charming as it had first appeared. It was yet another of her disused prisons, this time with the dark implements of a vanished era.

Eager to gloat about his escape from yet another of her abuses, Mr. Love sped to his mother’s new address in one of his vintage Buicks.

Now that Pim and Bim had produced a set of short stories eager to collide with avid readers, they naturally sought a publisher.

On the last day of the Writer’s Workshop, Pim and Bim were visited by a lecturer who had discovered, in a dusty 17th century tome, a sentence that explained the central question of being.

In a moment of fellowship before going their separate ways, the Well-Dressed Albatross and Mr. Love remarked on how ambivalent they felt at being restored to their original configuration. How often the things we strive so hard to recover only make us feel more helpless.

Ukifune and Brad finished the surgery, sent Mr. Love and the Well-Dressed Albatross on their ways, and returned to the home of Pim and Bim (who were still at the Iowa Writers Workshop, honing sentences of passionate intensity and aching tenderness.)

Brad and Ukifune brought the Well-Dressed Albatross back to the operating theatre, rehydrated the desiccated pieces of Mr. Love, and continued with the transplant. It was a long surgery but fortunately they had leftovers from the diner.

Fortunately Ukifune’s multi-purpose pocketknife had a device for removing albatross confined in works of art.

They found the Well-Dressed Albatross in no time, which was good, given that the anaesthetized and disarticulated Mr. Love was becoming ever more brittle, moment by moment

Hungry after the hours of surgery they stopped for lunch and Ukifune did some impressive detective work.
